U-Space is partner of the LIFE Beeadapt project, co-financed by the European Commission through the LIFE programme, as part of the sub-programme focusing on climate adaptation. The project, which will have a duration of 48 months (1/9/2022 – 31/8/2026), aims to support the climate adaptation capacities of wild pollinating insects through the implementation of pilot actions in certain target areas, the development of governance strategies, and the involvement of key players.
The project, coordinated by the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, has the following objectives:
- enhancement of ecological functionality and connectivity in the target areas, through the creation of green infrastructures, buffer areas and ecological corridors; creation of an abacus of practices for green infrastructures and identification of possible solutions to the obstacles that can slow down its implementation;
- definition of a multilevel governance model to strengthen, in the context of climate adaptation for pollinators, the capacities of public and private entities responsible for planning and land management;
- promotion of the BEEadapt model, and its replicability and sustainability over time, through the activation of a “Consultation Board” and a set of “Territorial Pacts” involving the key players;
- development and transfer of a protocol for pollinator adaptation, concerning the design, creation and management of green infrastructures, and the definition and implementation of agronomic and spatial management practices consistent with the CAP and able at the same time to support the survival of pollinators.
